spidernetwork: boku wa... desutoroiyā - for Caput (2026)
duration 11′
In the piece, spidernetwork: boku wa... desutoroiyā for Caput, a spider makes a web and captures its prey. Tonal material, the graphic notation, and the structure of the piece are all based on research into spiders, their behavior, how they build their webs and predate. Inspired by shapes found in the design of spiderwebs, the piece plays with themes of irregularity within a framework of repetitiveness. During this dark ritual, the music will eat up the space and everything within it, completely consuming Harpa: ‘boku wa... desutoroiyā’.
The graphic notation is partly created using a web of LEDs, controlled via a network of arduinos, with a central server procedurally generating each command from a set of probabilities that shift and change as the piece progresses. This software, which was created as a part of this piece, is open-source and can be freely shared and used for other pieces. You can access the source-code on github.com/rnyaaa/Spider-Network
